Orthodontics
The orthodontist is a dentist who has further specialized in “braces”.
The specialization requires three more years of university following the degree in medicine or dentistry.
It is highly recommended that children between 6 and 8 years of age go not only to a general dentist (to check for possible cavities) but also to a specialist in orthodontics (to check for any possible growth abnormality or dental replacement).
All of the teeth in the upper arch must be on the outer side of the lower arch.
Braces are not just for children, but also for adults of any age.
Some pathologies that may be either underestimated or blamed on other things (head aches, scoliosis, stiff neck and muscular pain in general) might be related to a bad bite, which orthodontics can partially or completely help correct.
A complete orthodontic treatment may last from a minimum of one year to a maximum of two according to the individual case.
